Vulcanised Cord Rings

The Vulcanised Cord Ring From Polymer Techniques

Please click here for crucial information regarding vulcanised cord rings.

Vulcanised Cord Rings, also commonly referred to as ‘Scarf Jointed O-Rings, Spliced Orings or VulcOrings’ are an excellent choice for static axial compression sealing applications. These rings are made by creating a length of extruded cord and vulcanising two 45° scarfed ends together in a unique moulding operation at high temperature. The joining process is particularly important, and with our rigorous inspection procedures and precision engineering, we are able to ensure that the join of the two ends results in a high level of tensile strength. This join will enjoy the same chemical and temperature resistance of the base compound.

Please be aware that Vulcanised Cord Rings cannot be used in dynamic applications, they should only be used in static axial compression applications.

We are able to offer Vulcanised Cord Rings in a wide variety of materials, and in multiple cross sections, with no upper limits to the inside diameter, and our products meet E1 OR E2 tolerances.

We can produce Vulcanised Cord Rings in the following materials:

EPDM 70 BLACK SULPHUR CURE

EPDM encapsulated O-rings have a high resistance to chemicals and are suitable for a range of temperatures.

We wish to point out that Epdm core will display outgassing discoloration (white powdery small bubbles) at the weld point inside the encapsulating jacket.

This is because Epdm does not withstand the high temperatures of the encapsulating process.

Hollow Vulcanised O-rings

When low compressive load sealing is required, Poly-Tech are now able to manufacture a range of Vulcanised O-rings with hollow sections.

This is an extruded hollow profile that is scarf joined into an O-ring utilising a unique hot vulcanising process.

We can offer these O-rings in the following materials: Fkm 75 FDA, VMQ 70 FDA, NBR 70 and Epdm 70 (sulphur cured).

Close Tolerance Vulcanised Cord Rings (Vacuum O-rings)

We now offer Vulcanised Cord Rings (also known as VulcOrings or Spliced O’Rings) with special close tolerances (half the tolerance of E1).

These bespoke tight tolerance products allow sealing under vacuum conditions.

Available in FKM 75 and VMQ 70 materials

Low-stick Orings for VARTM & RTM Composite vacuum applications

Recently we have developed a modified elastomer that displays very low-stick properties and this is becoming very popular with users in Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Moulding (VARTM) and Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) when the resins used can tend to stick to the vacuum Orings. When an attempt is made to remove excess resin from the Orings it can stick and tear small sections of elastomer, rendering the seal useless. Using our low-stick elastomers, the resin does not adhere so strongly allowing multiple reuse of the vacuum Orings.

We may be able to provide free of charge samples if you can send us your Oring requirements to sales.dept@poly-tech.com
